The seed

The payoff

(Pending — forward-canon. Oda routinely leaves a beloved sacrifice ambiguous-but-alive — cf. Pell at Alabasta. Watch for Bon Clay’s reappearance and the “flower of friendship” callback.)

Earliest known caller

(Unknown.)

Why this matters

The chapter engineers a death-flag set-piece (Bon Clay alone, surrounded, the warden granting last words) but pointedly does not show a death — the same ambiguous-but-alive grammar Oda used for Pell. The “I will make that flower bloom again” / “may we meet again as soon as possible” lines are a chekhov-explicit promise that the reader is invited to expect cashed.
