Hody Jones is revealed seated frontally on the Conchcorde Plaza execution platform, knees spread wide, body symmetric and centered, one massive arm raised and resting, the other hand on his spread knee, shark mouth-and-teeth set in a grin, white mane radiating like Arlong’s sun-rayed bandanna. A bold “OM” SFX (the tail of the panel’s DOOM-register sound) crowns his head; the panel is flanked by destruction (the kraken’s screaming maw upper-left, a tattooed shark-face element lower-right) in the corner slots where Arlong’s officers stood. His name caption runs dead-center across the bottom of the frame in giant block letters: HODY JONES (GREAT WHITE SHARK FISH-MAN).

The composition is a deliberate quotation: frontal throne-seat, spread knees, symmetric centered body, big SFX above the head, and the NAME caption dead-center at the bottom. Same archetype (shark fish-man supremacist captain), same pose, same nameplate placement as Arlong’s debut — the giant-block-letters nameplate replacing Arlong’s rectangular card is the only register shift.

Why this matters

Duval’s was a comedic re-key in the same fish-man-trafficking waters; Hody’s is the literal ideological succession. The composition-quote is doing the same job the Duval note’s “watch-for” predicted: it tells the reader “another Arlong-tier territorial boss” a beat before the dialogue confirms it. And here the dialogue confirms it loudly — this is the very chapter where Fukaboshi names Hody as the terminal vessel of the inherited-hatred cycle (Inherited Hatred Cycle Arlong To Hody To The New Fish-Man Pirates; Hody Jones Inherits Arlongs Fish-Man Supremacy As Arlongs Successor), a hatred with no personal cause. The visual quotation and the textual thesis land in the same chapter: Oda seats the new shark fish-man on the old shark fish-man’s throne to say, in one panel, “this is Arlong without the wound.”
