Spade Pirates

Ace’s first crew, named on-page for the first time in the Marineford reveal (Ch. 551, p. 7): Ace “began working your way up at an amazing speed as the captain of the Spade Pirates.” It was while Ace led the Spade Pirates that the World Government discovered Gold Roger’s bloodline had not been extinguished. The crew itself is not shown this chapter ; Ace and his crew were later taken in by Whitebeard / the Whitebeard Pirates.
Notable events
- Ch. 551 — named on-page as Ace’s pre-Whitebeard crew (p. 7); the crew/flag is not depicted.
- Ch. 552 — the Ace-origin flashback dramatizes the crew’s fate: Ace (called “Captain Ace”, p. 9) led the Spade Pirates, turned down a Seven Warlords offer, then went after Whitebeard and lost; after his defeat the crew was absorbed wholesale into the Whitebeard Pirates and Ace rose to 2nd Division Commander (pp. 6-13).
- Ch. 589 — In the childhood-flashback close, Luffy reads a newspaper: “Ace is famous now! There’s a picture of his pirate ship and crew!” (p.15) — the Spade Pirates referenced as Ace’s rising crew, not clearly shown.
Wano visit (flashback, ~4 years before Ch. 912)
- Ch. 912 — flashback: Ace’s crew shipwrecked near Amigasa Village in Kuri, Wano during the country’s starving years; after eating the village’s last supplies they ultimately saved it and stayed several weeks (pp. 7-8, 13). Shown in flashback only as “Ace’s group” — the crew is not named “Spade Pirates” on-page here.
