Profile

A legendary Wano katana smith of the Shimotsuki house, named on-page Ch. 955 (p. 16) by Kozuki Sukiyaki as the maker of both Zoro’s heirloom Wado Ichimonji AND Oden’s Enma — two of the 21 Excellent-Grade Swords. He “broke the laws and left this land over 50 years ago.” His surname Shimotsuki matches Zoro’s East-Blue home village, strongly implying he is the émigré link explaining how a Wano-forged O Wazamono reached a rural dojo. Named, not yet shown.

Arc-by-arc updates

Wano Country — Zoro’s flashback (Ch. 1033) — first on-page appearance; full backstory

  • Shown on-page (flashback) as the “old man of the village” who sat by the coast in Zoro’s East-Blue hometown, Frost Moon (Shimotsuki) Village — a former samurai of Wano who “broke the laws and left this land over 50 years ago” (pp. 11–15).
  • Revealed to be Kuina’s grandfather (“It wasn’t until the day he died that I learned he was Kuina’s grandpa,” p. 11) — confirming the Wano↔East-Blue Shimotsuki bridge; the village was “built by pirates” and “named for the Shimotsuki” (p. 15).
  • Forged Wado Ichimonji, Enma, and Kitetsu III (“You already wield Kitetsu III. That is one of mine,” p. 8). Personally named Enma “after the king who watches over hell… the King of the underworld,” his greatest blade, crafted when young (p. 14).
  • Sword doctrine: a blacksmith hones weapons “to be better at killing than any other”; a feared “cursed” sword is “a badge of honor… the sign of great quality”; “a great blade can see into you — it chooses only the swordsman who best suits it” (pp. 13–15). Taught the children the word “Sunacchi,” “a magic word that summons strength into your heart” (p. 11).
