Holy · alive · Ohm / Upper Yard

Profile

Giant white combat dog belonging to the priest Ohm (NOT Gan Fall — distinct from Orange Town’s Chouchou). Introduced Ch. 266 as Ohm’s “trusty canine sidekick.” Obedient/trained — “he won’t attack unless I command it.”

Arc-by-arc updates

Skypiea — Ordeal of Iron demonstration (Ch. 268)

  • Ohm, “a sky breeder,” presents Holly as a trained combat dog taught to walk on two legs and fight in hand-to-hand combat (“Enjoy the demonstration!!” / “WOOF!!”) (pp. 7-8) — a comic-but-dangerous animal combatant in the Ordeal of Iron.

Skypiea — central ruins (Ch. 267)

  • Accompanies Ohm into the central ruins; seen lounging atop the rubble beside Zoro and the small stone pyramid (pages 15, 18).
  • (RECURRING — only last_appearance advances to Ch. 267.)

Skypiea — vs. Chopper (Ch. 266) — first appearance

Etymology

ホーリー / Hōrī — the katakana is the English loanword that maps to both “holly” (the plant) and “holy” (near-homophone). The split is visible in the localizations: VIZ → “Holly”, Funimation → “Holy.” Both readings are intended-in-text. The “holy” reading lands inside the arc’s theocratic / God’s-Army religious-naming theme — a “holy” combat dog for the Priest Ohm (himself named for Om / ॐ, Oda-SBS-confirmed) under the self-styled god Enel; the “holly” reading is the surface plant/pet name. A thematic name, not a buried future-reveal. Confidence: medium — the dual holly/holy mapping is solid from the JP katakana + VIZ/Funi split; the ‘holy → theocracy’ intent is a strong but unstated inference.

Notes

  • VIZ “Holly”; “Holy” recorded as an R↔transliteration alias variant.
  • Owner = Ohm per batch reconciliation (any earlier “Gan Fall’s dog” attribution is a misread).
