Yasuie's Habu-Viper Riddle Encodes The True Rally Point
Status: confirmed · Technique: negative-space / prop-tell / chekhov-explicit · Payoff: Ch. 975
The seed
Ch. 942 — Yasuie’s dying coded message
Lord Yasuie dies broadcasting a coded riddle/image to the Akazaya — a deliberately obscured rally instruction whose real meaning is withheld. The “altered” rally message (viper → lizard) is relayed by Kin’emon Ch. 954 as “Tokage Port,” planting the decoy.
The payoff
Denjiro decodes it: the two lines over the belly of the Habu viper symbolize Habu Port , the lines a sign to “remove the midsection” of Habuminato , leaving hato — “Wharf.” Kin’emon openly misread it as Tokage Port in the spy’s presence, so the unwitting Kanjuro passed the decoy to Orochi. The true 4,200-strong force and its ships hid behind the maple forest at the Habu Port wharf; the ships Orochi sank at Itachi Port were decoys.

(Caller TBD.)
Why this matters
A textbook prop-tell / negative-space payoff: a dying man’s obscured drawing, planted chapters earlier and relayed as a “leaked, changed” rally point, is revealed to be a trap that turned the spy’s own intel into the alliance’s advantage — the literal “Kin’emon’s Clever Trick” (with the chapter’s closing gag that Kin’emon had in fact misread it by accident).
