Predicted: the medicine-that-cures-any-illness across-the-ocean trope is the narrative-engine of the Drum Island arc (Hiriluk’s medicine-fairytale-as-cure, Chopper’s recruitment). Ch 41 plants the trope ~113 chapters early as a child’s coping tactic against a dying parent. The Drum arc will treat the wonder-medicine as literally true if redefined — the cure is belief itself, the patient’s hope is what medicine refers to. Hiriluk’s “The only sickness that can’t be cured is death… but the cure for death is to be remembered.” register is downstream of Usopp’s Ch 41 “I want to keep dreaming” register on the same page.

• parallel-arc-structure prefiguring: a future arc’s core narrative engine is planted in a side-character’s casual dialogue in a prior arc. The Drum arc is already running in Usopp’s deathbed monologue, ~113 chapters before it formally begins.
