Universal — the lie-becomes-true narrative engine is one of the most-discussed Oda devices.

Why this matters

The liar-truth inversion is one of Oda’s signature narrative engines and one of the series’ deepest thematic patterns. Ch. 40 (Usopp’s recruitment) is the cleanest, earliest, and most explicit on-page instance of the pattern — the chapter literally stages the lie-becoming-true beat as the recruitment vector. Future-Claude should treat any character’s recurring self-description as a likely future-truth, not a future-irony. The pattern is constitutive of how Oda recruits characters into their narrative roles.
