Why this matters

The Smoker cross-arc pursuit is one of Oda’s longest-running recurring-Marine antagonist patterns. The Ch. 128 → Ch. 157/158 payoff is the first multi-arc Marine-pursuit completion in the series. Pre-loads the broader Marine-pursuit-grammar (Smoker re-appears in Mock Town in Skypiea; post-timeskip Punk Hazard duel with Vergo).
