The seed
Bloodied and broken, Pink takes Franky ’s shot head-on, disinfects with brandy, and answers a comrade-in-danger question with “Dunno. I don’t live in the past. ” The deliberate emphasis on a past he refuses to discuss — paired with his tragic-clown / baby-costume design and the adoring baby-talk onlookers (“Make love to me, Señor!”) — seeds an unrevealed history.
The payoff
Señor Pink’s tragedy is told in full (pp. 12–18): a bank-clerk cover hid his pirate life from his wife Russian Gimlet Franky wins the fight and weeps for him (p. 19).
