Reverse Mountain Canal-Current Entrance Mechanic
Status: confirmed (template-establishment chapter) · Technique: chekhov-explicit, parallel-arc-structure, world-building-mechanic-template
The seed
Ch. 101 pages 3, 7, 12, 13 — full Nami-exposition of the canal-current mechanism
Nami delivers the mechanic across multiple labeled hand-drawn diagrams: (a) page 3 ‘THE ENTRANCE TO THE GRAND LINE IS UP A MOUNTAIN’ ; (b) page 7 three-band Calm-Belt cosmology schematic; (c) page 12 four-seas convergence cross-diagram (currents from East/West/North/South Blue converge at Reverse Mountain because of the Red Line’s barrier-effect); (d) page 13 winter-island canal mechanism. The mechanic: four-Blue currents → upward canal-current → summit confluence → downward canal-current into Grand Line. Canal-or-die binary : if a ship misses the canal, it breaks up and is swallowed by the sea .
Ch. 101 pages 15-17 — operational demonstration
The Going Merry rides the upward current into the canal-entry. Luffy’s rubber-bumper-foot save (pages 16-17) bounces the ship back into the canal when it threatens to break against the wall. The canal-or-die mechanic is operationally validated in the same chapter.
Why this matters
The canal-current mechanic is the template-establishment chapter for every later Grand-Line geographic-hazard. The canal-or-die binary is the structural-template for the Knock-Up Stream (one-way launch to Skypiea), the Florian Triangle (single-passage), Marineford Sea-Stone walls (canal-gate), Wano whirlpool gate (precision-entry). Forward-pattern: every later Grand-Line-arc geographic-hazard re-keys to this Ch. 101 install.
