The seed

On pages 6–7, the giant children’s dreaded “Frozen Ones” are revealed to be a chamber packed with frozen giant corpses; the group flees in terror. The lab is shown to contain (and preserve) dead or dying giant bodies — a Chekhov chamber whose contents and cause are deliberately withheld. Pairs with the captive-children mystery: who made these giants, and what happened to the ones that didn’t survive? See Punk Hazard’s Captive Children.

Why this matters

Classic Oda negative-space / prop-tell: a dread-laden name the captive children keep dropping (“the Frozen Ones”) is cashed out as a literal, horrifying prop — a chamber of frozen giant bodies — the moment the cast (and reader) stumbles into it, but the explanation is withheld to drive the arc. prop whose on-page reveal is a partial payoff, not the full answer.
