Seven chapters after the Ch 81 hat-handoff and the silent “HELP…” whisper, the hat is back on Nami’s head and she delivers her recruitment-acceptance under it: “OKAY!!!! / Fight and die… WITH ME!!! / I’M SORRY, EVERYONE!!!” in a full-face hero-shot composition (brightest panel in chapter, single radiant-burst SFX-backdrop, sweat-drenched but smile-resolved face under the straw hat’s silhouette).
The composition is the first armed-with-the-hat recruitment-acceptance in the series — the prior recruits (Zoro Ch 6, Usopp Ch 41, Sanji Ch 68) said yes without the hat. Nami’s acceptance is under the hat — the prop is physically marking her as the protected-one even as she chooses to fight. The hat-loan that began as silent I-am-responsible-for-you (Ch 81) is here operationally complete — Nami is on the crew, choosing the crew, and wearing the symbol of the protection-vow she once received in tears.
The compositional grammar: hero-shot face-close-up + straw-hat-overhead + radiant-burst SFX-backdrop + recruitment-yes-balloon is the first installation of the hat-loan-as-recruitment-completion-marker sub-grammar. Forward-pattern: every later beat where Luffy lends the hat to a non-crew character who then chooses to act (Vivi at Alabasta climax, Rebecca at Dressrosa, Tama at Wano) inherits this composition’s hat-as-permission-to-act register.
The chapter is also the inversion-completion of the Ch 81 hat-handoff: Ch 81 was Nami asks for help, Luffy gives the hat-as-protection; Ch 88 is Nami declines to be merely protected, chooses to fight, wears the hat as her own decision-marker. The protection-relationship has graduated from Luffy-protects-Nami to Nami-and-Luffy-fight-together-with-the-hat-as-shared-symbol. The hat is the grammar of the transition.
