The country’s sole physician remains in her castle; the master-mentor’s permanent affiliation is to the island, not to the crew. Establishes the pattern that the Straw Hats’ arc-recruits are apprentices who leave their masters, not the masters themselves — see Zeff (Sanji’s mentor, stays on the Baratie), Bell-mère (Nami’s adoptive mother, deceased), Kuina (Zoro’s rival, deceased), Yasopp (Usopp’s father, sails with Shanks).
