Status: confirmed (visual mirror) · Technique: visual-silhouette · label-panel-grammar · villain-introduction Ch 69 p. 13 ↔ Ch 812 p. 13 — the arc-villain coronation splash, re-keyed for the Worst-Generation heavy who pivots the Zou seam toward the Whole Cake / Big Mom premise.

The seed

Arlong’s arc-villain debut: a near-full-page figure sprawled on his bench-throne, arms flung wide along the back-rail, head thrown back roaring (HAR HAR HAR), an enormous DOOM!! SFX letterform filling the negative space above him, two officers flanking him left and right, and a two-line rectangular nameplate lower-center reading “SAW-TOOTH” ARLONG / CAPTAIN OF ARLONG’S PIRATES. The East Blue installation of the villain coronation label-splash (origin: Alvida, Ch. 2 p. 6 — see Villain Label-Panel Grammar First Installed).

The payoff

Bege’s New World debut-reveal: a near-full-page full-figure standing pose, hat at the top of the frame and the vast pinstriped castle-coat/cape spreading to his feet so the body fills the vertical axis, the same DOOM!! SFX split as DO / OM!! across the negative space on either side of him, reaction figures (Sanji et al.) crowding the frame’s edges, and a giant-block-letter nameplate dead-center at the bottom reading CAPTAIN OF THE FIRETANK PIRATES / CAPONE “GANG” BEGE / BOUNTY: 300 MILLION BERRIES. As he stands he names his own scope (“same generation as your captain… I’ve got the Castle-Castle Fruit”), so the splash crowns him a beat before the chapter’s premise (Big Mom’s wedding invitation, p. 17) lands.

The mirror (shared invariants)

  1. Full-figure occupying the vertical axis — Arlong sprawled across his throne / Bege standing with his castle-coat filling the page top-to-bottom; the body is the composition.
  2. The literal same DOOM!! SFX in negative space — not merely the same register: Bege’s DO…OM!! is the identical letterform Oda used to crown Arlong, here split to bracket the figure. This is a precise composition-quote, not incidental staging.
  3. Lower-center caption-card, TITLE / NAME (/ BOUNTY) — Arlong’s two-line rectangular nameplate → Bege’s three-line card. Bege’s adds the BOUNTY: 300 MILLION BERRIES line, matching the exact format and the exact bounty figure of Caesar’s sibling card (Ch. 664 p. 18).
  4. Archetype-maximal render — each is the quintessential version of its identity: Arlong the sun-coat fish-man warlord; Bege the 1920s pinstripe mafia don (“Gang” Bege, captain of the Firetank Pirates).

Why this matters

The villain label-splash is a graded threat-marker / coronation: the full-figure + SFX-backdrop + nameplate-card treatment flags a character as a master of the arc, not a one-shot. Installed in East Blue (Alvida → Arlong) and redeployed across the New World — Caesar’s gas-form reveal got it (Ch. 664 p. 18), Doflamingo’s Joker reveal got the coronation variant (Ch. 682 p. 6). Bege’s card is the synthesis of both New-World siblings: it carries the giant-block-letter register Oda reserves for New-World heavies (Hody → Doflamingo → now Bege) and the BOUNTY-line format with the identical 300-million figure of Caesar’s card. Reusing the literal DOOM!! letterform makes the quotation unmistakable. The grammar does its work a beat early — it tells the reader “this newcomer is the pivot of the next movement” before the Big Mom wedding-premise (p. 17) reframes the saga — exactly when the Zou seam needed a heavy to point the crew toward Whole Cake Island.

Watch-for: a full-figure + big DOOM-register SFX + lower-center TITLE/NAME nameplate is the arc-villain label-splash tell; check whether the card has the giant-block-letter shift (New-World register) and whether it carries a BOUNTY line (the Caesar/Bege bounty-card sub-variant). When a new heavy debuts on this staging, read it as Oda naming a master of the coming movement. One instance of the broader Panel-Composition Quotation Technique.
