The seed
Arlong articulates the jaw-muscle-not-tooth doctrine on page 9: ‘They may be my teeth, but your jaws are too weak! A shark’s teeth are deadly because its jaw muscles have the strength to bite through… …FLESH AND BONE!!!!’ — installs two anatomical-doctrines in one panel-sequence.
Why this matters
The chapter installs:
- Shark-fish-man tooth-regeneration as canonical species-anatomy (Arlong does not lose teeth permanently).
- Jaw-muscle-not-tooth bite-power doctrine — the weapon is not the dentition, it is the musculature.
Forward-pattern:
- Fish-Man Island arc (Ch. 612+) — fish-man species-anatomy becomes central combat-element. Hody Jones throws teeth as projectiles; the tooth-regeneration register pre-loaded here makes the throw-and-regrow grammar plausible.
- Hody Jones’s drug-enhanced fish-man tier (Ch. 631+) — the racial-anatomy-as-baseline register established here is the doctrinal floor against which the drug-enhancement is contrasted.
- General fish-man-vs-human combat-tier grammar — every later Arlong-tier or higher fish-man combat scene uses species-anatomy as the proximate combat-tool (Kuroobi’s ray-fin armor, Hatchan’s six arms, Choo’s lip-projectiles).
