Name meaning
ルスカイナ Rusukaina is a goroawase pun on 留守かいな rusu kai na — colloquial (Kansai-flavoured) for 'nobody home, huh?' / 'is no one in?' (留守 rusu = absence / away-from-home / empty house; かいな kaina = the casual interrogative 'isn't it?'). Names the island for exactly what it is — a deserted, uninhabited wilderness — and quietly underlines its extinct ancient civilization ('inhabited in ancient times, but those people lost the battle for survival'). VIZ/Funimation render it 'Ruskaina'; Funimation's 3D2Y sub used 'Luscaina.'

Calm Belt · first appeared: Ch. 597

Profile

A deserted island northwest of the Island of Women (Amazon Lily), inside the Calm Belt. Chosen by Silvers Rayleigh as the ground for Luffy’s two-year training because of its brutality. Notable features (all stated on-page Ch. 597 pp. 9–11):

Rayleigh forbids Hancock and all women from visiting so the survival pressure stays maximal. The training officially begins at chapter’s end.

Etymology

Confidence: high · ルスカイナ Rusukaina is a goroawase pun on 留守かいな rusu kai na — colloquial (Kansai-flavoured) for “nobody home, huh?” / “is no one in?” (留守 rusu = absence / away-from-home / empty house; かいな kaina = the casual interrogative “isn’t it?”). The name labels the island for precisely what it is — a deserted, uninhabited wilderness — and quietly echoes its extinct ancient civilization (“inhabited in ancient times, but those people lost the battle for survival,” Ch. 597 pp. 9–11). VIZ/Funimation render it “Ruskaina”; Funimation’s 3D2Y special sub used “Luscaina.” Source: One Piece Wiki — Rusukaina.
