Zoro Swordsman Not Acrobat Doctrine

The doctrine
The chapter installs Zoro’s swordsman-purity-doctrine: the swordsman identity is not vegetable-chopper (utilitarian) and not acrobat (athletic-tricks). The swordsman’s discipline is distinct from both cook-bladework (utilitarian, food-prep) and circus-performance (entertainment, multi-limb spectacle). The dual-contempt operates at both ends of the non-swordsman bladework spectrum.
Forward-pattern (checked, not confirmed)
The seed originally claimed every later Zoro contemptuous-rename of opponent-styles (Kaku’s giraffe-fu at Enies Lobby, Mr. 1’s blade-body) traces this Ch. 84-85 register. On inspection this does not hold up — see failure_mode in the frontmatter for the close read of both fights:
- Mr. 1 (Ch. 189-196, Alabasta): Zoro’s register is a cut-steel growth-thesis (“I can’t cut steel yet… I’ll be able to cut through steel,” Ch. 193), not a contemptuous rename of Mr. 1’s fighting style. If anything it is Mr. 1 who self-demotes (“Don’t mistake me for a swordsman… I’m an assassin,” Ch. 195 p.8) — the rename-rhetoric direction is inverted from the claim, and it isn’t Zoro’s line anyway.
- Kaku (Ch. 401-419, Enies Lobby): Zoro calls Kaku’s stretch-Zoan body a “pasta machine” (Ch. 417 p.6) — a jab at his physiology, not his swordsmanship — and treats Kaku as a legitimate rival swordsman throughout, answering the four-sword style with escalation (the nine-sword Asura) rather than contempt.
Neither instance repeats the rename-the-opponent’s-skill-as-degraded rhetoric from Ch. 84-85. The doctrine may still be real as a one-off Hatchan-arc beat, but the claimed forward-recurrence is not evidenced — status remains pending. (The structurally-adjacent idea — Sanji’s cook-purity doctrine, Usopp’s sniper-purity doctrine, each Straw Hat having an identity-axiom-via-negation — may still be worth its own seed, but is not itself confirmed by this note’s evidence and should not be used to backfill the Kaku/Mr. 1 claim.)
