The seed

The chapter’s title-aphorism — the chewed-up spear — lands as Zeff’s narration of the Luffy-vs-Krieg combat. The aphorism is bi-directional:

• grit beats weapons (Luffy’s spear skewers Krieg)
• blind grit self-destructs (Luffy’s own spear is chewing him in the sea)

Forward-payoff

Every later Luffy-overextends-and-pays moment re-deploys the grit-self-chews-the-grit-bearer axis:
