Ch. 169 — Crocodile, inside the Rain Dinners V.I.P. cage, addresses Vivi with mocking respect: “You put up a good fight, princess.” The line operationalizes the hostage-doctrine that will govern the remainder of the Alabasta arc: captured Strawhats as bargaining chips against royal-line compliance.

Why this matters

The line marks the structural pivot from Vivi-as-escort-mission to Vivi-as-Crocodile’s-direct-target. Crocodile’s mockery is functional — it signals that he knows her identity, knows her royal-line, and is willing to use the captured Strawhats as leverage.
