The seed
Why it matters
The chapter installs a tier-perception-mismatch on a single panel. The same opponent (Momoo) reads as:
- Grand-Line-tier destroyer to the Cocoyasi villagers (local memory of Gosa destruction).
- already-defeated-mook to the Straw Hats (Ch. 73 one-shot).
The chapter canonizes the crew-is-already-stronger-than-the-local-baseline arc-grammar via the perception-mismatch panel. Forward-pattern:
- Alabasta — locals describe Crocodile as untouchable; Luffy fights him as winnable opponent.
- Skypiea — Skypieans describe Eneru as god; Luffy fights him as winnable opponent.
- Wano — locals describe Kaido as undefeatable; Luffy fights him as the next stairstep.
The chapter is the East-Blue-tier prototype of the tier-perception-mismatch grammar. Every later arc has a panel where a local says X is unbeatable and a Straw Hat deflates it with just him / just a fish / just a guy with a mask register.
Technique stack
- dialogue-as-tier-marker — the words the monster from the Grand Line and just him are the load-bearing tier-markers.
- parallel-arc-structure — every later arc deploys the same perception-mismatch panel.
