Why this matters

A parallel-arc-structure + dialogue-from-dead-character seed: Oda intercuts the present-day Scabbards’ leap with the 20-year-old castle fire so the reader equates the retainers with Oden himself — the only man to ever wound Kaido. The “Oden!!” outcry is the prop-tell that the wound he fears most is the one this charge threatens to reopen. Pairs with the long-standing seed that Oden’s blade Enma gave Kaido his only scar.
