The seed
Sanji’s stay-architecture has been adjustable across the arc: Ch. 45 (withheld-reason) → Ch. 52 (chore-boy-release bargain) → Ch. 67 (chef-acknowledgment threshold). The Ch. 67 threshold is the recruitment-pivot’s-final-obstacle.
The payoff
Forward-tell: the chapter-end Zeff-Sanji blow (page 17) is plausibly the chef-acknowledgment moment in inverted form — Zeff acknowledges Sanji’s skill not by praising him but by driving him off the ship in mock-rejection. The Ch. 68 recruitment-resolution will reveal whether the chef-acknowledgment comes as praise, as departure-blessing, or as inverted-rejection-as-blessing.
Why this matters
Cross-link Zeff Mentor Mocks the Disciple — the mentor’s communication-register is mock-as-affection; the recruitment-blessing will likely arrive in that register. The recruit is the architect of his own recruitment-thresholds — every Sanji obstacle to recruitment is installed by Sanji himself, then dissolved by the mentor’s compliance with the threshold.
