The seed
Kokoro and Iceberg stress, on introducing the Rocketman (recorded in Sea Train), that “no matter how we try to adjust it, the steam engine’s speed is uncontrollable… and it runs wild. I can’t guarantee your lives” (Ch. 365 p. 12). An explicitly-flagged flaw planted at the moment the chase vehicle is handed over — a classic Chekhov tell whose payoff lands later in the Enies Lobby sequence (the train’s inability to brake / colliding course).
The payoff
(Forward-canon: the brakeless Rocketman’s inability to stop pays off in the Enies Lobby chase/return sequence. Not paid off through this batch — status: pending.)
Earliest known caller
(Unknown.)
Why this matters
A flagged mechanical flaw on the very vehicle the heroes ride into Enies Lobby — Oda’s explicit Chekhov grammar. Cross-link Sea Train, Kokoro, Iceberg.
