The seed

Ch. 0218 pp. 4-6 is the first on-page statement of Robin’s true-history quest: among the world’s many poneglyphs, only one recounts the true history; she has searched 20 years; the Alabasta chamber stone was her “last hope” and wasn’t it, leaving her wanting to die. She also frames the poneglyphs as a distributed cipher — “can these scripts be spun together to tell of untold history… is that what the poneglyphs are?” (p. 6). This explicitly plants (a) the Rio/true-history poneglyph as a single, special stone distinct from ordinary kingdom-history poneglyphs, (b) Robin’s read-them-all premise, and (c) her death-wish-to-will-to-live arc fuel that pays off at Enies Lobby.

Why this matters

Why it matters: this is the load-bearing seed for Robin’s entire forward-canon function as the reader/finisher of the suppressed history. Cross-link True History Ohara Was Killed For, Void Century and Ancient Kingdom, Nico Robin.
