Why this matters

A textbook Oda “negative-space” antagonist seed: the future tyrant Shogun is introduced not as a schemer but as a cringing, dishonest servant whose small, petty lie against his betters telegraphs the resentment that later topples a clan. The beat is delivered through a dead character’s own narration (Oden’s journal), letting Oda plant the villain’s motive retroactively without breaking the flashback’s voice.
