Ch. 109 page 7 — “Hot-blooded… Bat of Guts!! This is a metal bat! Klank!!” — Mr. 9 swings a metal baseball-bat at Zoro. Page 13 — “Home-Run Hide-a-Bat!!” — Mr. 9 reveals a concealed second bat for a surprise-secondary-strike.

Why this matters

Mr. 9’s two-bat trick is the prototype of the Baroque-Works officer-combat-grammar: appear to wield one obvious weapon, conceal a second weapon for the trap-strike. Same structural register as Igaram’s saxophone (which conceals a single-barrel firearm AND a multi-barrel cannon variant — Mr 8 Igarappa Saxophone-Gun Attack). Both Whisky-Peak Frontier Agents wield double-state weapons — one apparent, one hidden — instantiating Baroque Works’ deception-as-combat-grammar organizational doctrine.

The pattern recurs across the Baroque-Works officer roster (Miss Valentine’s umbrella + weight, Mr. 3’s wax + figure-trap, Miss Goldenweek’s paint + emotional-control). The crew that disguises its towns with hospitality and its weapons as instruments also conceals its tactical-tier behind first-impression-buffoonery — Mr. 9 is laughed off by Zoro as easy-tier but lands a concealed-bat surprise-strike that requires Zoro to engage with active swordsmanship.
