Why this matters
The gag encodes Luffy’s casual disregard for antagonist symbolism — a structural cousin of the tyrant-monument-destroyed pattern. Luffy doesn’t fight ideology, he disrupts symbol: by destroying the statue (Ch. 4), by wearing the cape (Ch. 14), by treating the symbol as a costume. This is also the chapter-14 first cover/splash pastiche in the series — Oda establishes that the cover/splash apparatus is a parody/pastiche surface, not just a character feature.
