Why this matters
This is the first on-page Luffy-rejects-a-helpful-route-on-principle moment — and the first time the principle is stated as a principle, not just demonstrated by action.
Earlier we’ll fight Arlong even if we can escape instances are choice-by-action (Luffy chooses combat over flight, but doesn’t articulate why). The Ch. 114 she’s not deciding what course we take line is choice-by-stated-principle: Luffy is articulating a doctrine about who-gets-to-decide-courses, not just acting on it.
Forward-payoff: the Joy-Boy-as-freedom thesis (Ch. 1043-1044, Drums of Liberation) retroactively reads this Ch. 114 Luffy-crushes-the-pose moment as a pre-install of the Joy-Boy-spirit indicator — Luffy crushes determinism the same way Joy Boy historically refused the Void-Century-imposed order.
The destroyed-instrument grammar physically renders the doctrine: Luffy doesn’t just refuse the pose, he breaks it, removing the option entirely so no crewmate can later choose it. This destroy-the-affordance-not-just-decline-it register is the maximally-forceful form of the anti-determinism doctrine.
Sister-pattern: every later Luffy-rejects-the-help beat re-keys here — Kuma’s Sabaody offer, Akainu-pursuit-options, the Yonko-alliance-rejections in the New World, Vegapunk-explanation-impatience.
