The seed and the payoff in the same chapter
Chapter 34 is titled “A Humble Servant”. The phrase is then spoken verbatim on page 16 by Kuro himself — and the entire monologue inverts the servant-role into a curse.
Why this matters
This is a title-as-payoff technique that recurs across Oda’s chapters — the chapter title is often the villain’s line, read with one tone on cover and a different tone after the chapter is read. Track instances across the series to build the pattern as a foreshadowing-detection heuristic for future chapters.
The pattern recurs:
- Don Krieg arc title-lines — multiple chapters in the Krieg arc use Krieg’s own self-description as the title
- Crocodile’s “Mr. 0” title-lines — Alabasta arc titles often borrow Crocodile’s framing

Diagnostic for future chapter reads: if the chapter title can be read as the villain’s self-description, expect a payoff-line in the villain’s own mouth somewhere in the chapter. The line will typically invert the surface-reading of the title.
