Chapter 40 itself stages the withheld request as an explicit, declared cliffhanger (chekhov-explicit form) — the reader is meant to want the next chapter for exactly this one reveal. No community/theory caller predates the text; the technique is Oda’s honest setup, not a hidden clue.

Why this matters

• chekhov-explicit-cliffhanger — the “gun on the mantel” (Kaya’s request) is loaded and shown to the reader as withheld in the same panel it’s introduced, then fired one chapter later. This is among the tightest setup-payoff windows in early East Blue (one chapter wide), compared to the companion 18-chapter arc-goal setup tracked in Going Merry Setup (Ch. 23 → Ch. 41/42).
• gift-as-request register — Oda stages the gift as something withheld and requested rather than announced outright, which lets the panel play the reveal as a surprise for both Usopp’s former crew and the reader, even though the compositional cues (Kaya’s generous smile) already tip the answer.
• inheritance-as-vehicle — Kaya’s parents’ fortune, the arc’s central MacGuffin (the reason Kuro/Klahadore targeted her), is redirected by Kaya herself into funding the Straw Hats’ onward journey. The dead parents’ agency is carried forward into the rest of the series through their daughter’s gift.
• This note is scoped narrowly to the Ch. 40 cliffhanger → Ch. 41 reveal beat specifically (the “one more request” framing).
