Ch. 71 page 5 — Zoro: “You darn, dirty half-fish!!!” Ch. 71 page 6 — fishman officer: “Watch it, human! I’ll let it slide once, but don’t ever call me a half-fish again!!”
Why this matters
First on-page slur-and-correction beat for the fishman race. The half-fish register implies a partial-human partial-fish taxonomy that fishmen explicitly reject. The chapter installs linguistic-pride as a marker of fishman racial identity — fishmen self-name as evolved-humans-fully-integrated-with-fish-traits, not as part-this-part-that hybrids.
Forward-payoff: the Fish-Man Island saga (Ch. 608+) will introduce the fishman-vs-merfolk taxonomy — merfolk are fish-from-the-waist-down humans (the partial-fish taxonomy), fishmen are fully-integrated fish-and-human. The half-fish slur is historically descriptive of merfolk but racially insulting applied to fishmen.
