The Ch. 49 Krieg Shoots His Own Crew axiom is re-deployed at indirect-collateral register — Krieg’s weapon poisons the crewman who would not obey. The Krieg-Pirates’ moral-conscience officer is now under direct fatal threat from his own captain’s arsenal.
Forward-payoff: Gin’s eventual death by his own captain’s weapon (Ch. 67-68 likely). The Ch. 63 instance is the first step in the fatal arc. The chapter’s Patty-issues-antidote-protocol (page 4: “There should be at least a little antitoxin left.”) is the attempted-rescue layer.
