Why this matters

Function: The duel’s combat-rounds are paced by the eruption-cycle. Between eruptions, the duelists do not fight. The volcano is the arc-clock for the entire Little Garden arc — every climactic beat times to the next eruption.

Name-coding: Dead Center — geographically the central peak of the island, but also tonally evocative of terminus / finality and bullseye / target-center. The double-coding pre-installs the mountain as both the duel’s signal-mechanism and the duel’s eventual end-point.
