The verb-grammar — one character, one verb, that’s the role — is the introductory grammar Oda recycles for every later Straw Hat recruitment:
Sanji (Baratie arc) — “I cook.” The role is unambiguous in a single verb.
Chopper (Drum) — “I treat.” / “I heal.”
Robin (Alabasta) — “I read.” The verb-role is historian but Oda compresses it.
Franky (Water 7) — “I build.”
Brook (Thriller Bark) — “I sing.” / “I play.”
Jinbe (Whole Cake) — “I swim.” / “I fight.”
The pattern: every Straw Hat’s role is self-naming as function and is legible in one verb. The Ch 28 page-5 panel is the origin instance — the grammar is being established explicitly with the first three crew members.

parallel-arc-structure — the verb-grammar recurs in every later recruitment beat.
