Why this matters
The chapter is the canonical-source for one of Oda’s recurring family-grammar doctrines: chosen family is canonically superior to biological family. The doctrine recurs across the series as a Straw-Hat-crew structural principle (the crew is chosen, not blood — and is treated as canonically-superior to most blood-families in the series), as the engine of Luffy/Ace/Sabo’s sake-brotherhood (Ch. 585), as Otohime’s love-the-land-creatures speech in Fish-Man Island, and as the implicit moral floor of nearly every villain-vs-Straw-Hat confrontation involving an inverted family-grammar (Doflamingo’s blood-superiority / Vinsmoke family’s blood-only / Charlotte Linlin’s blood-as-property). The Ch. 77 articulation is the earliest on-page version of the doctrine. Forward-payoff: every chosen-family beat in the series traces structurally to this chapter.
