Why this matters

The chapter establishes Bell-mère as an ex-Marine (‘fighting sailor’). The chest tattoo is plausibly a Marine-unit signifier — a ship name, a unit callsign, or a service-marker. Forward-question: does any later chapter or SBS clarify the tattoo’s meaning?

Notes

• recent-chapter resolution concern: the tattoo text may not actually be MACE — it could be a stylized partial-word or another text entirely. Verification pending higher-resolution image.
• The MACE reading would be name-etymology-coded: mace = a spiked-club close-combat weapon, fitting the fighting sailor register.
