Baby 5's Need-To-Be-Needed Sparks A Defection To Sai

The seed
Mid-fight, Sai throws combat taunts (“Will you follow me!?” / “I’ll never let you go!” / “My blade shall seek out your heart!!”). Baby 5 — whose long-established compulsion is that she cannot refuse anyone who says they need her (cf. her eight fiancés, Ch. 0692–0695) — hears a love confession, blushes “You need me, don’t you?! ♡,” and declares “…then… I don’t care who I work for!!” A chekhov-explicit character trait pointed straight at a side-switch.
Why it matters: Baby 5’s “need me” compulsion is a loaded gun introduced long before Dressrosa; here it is aimed at an enemy she’s supposed to be fighting, with her own words flagging a willingness to abandon Doflamingo. The payoff (her defection / pairing with Sai) is forward of this window — status: pending.
Why this matters
Oda loads a character’s established compulsion (Baby 5 cannot refuse anyone who says they need her) long before the payoff, then fires it from an unexpected angle — an enemy’s combat taunt mid-battle — to telegraph a defection. A chekhov-explicit + dialogue tell that a side-switch is coming.
