The seed
Page 13 of Ch. 69 (Arlong’s DOOM debut splash): “Money makes the world go round!!! Money is good!!! It’s the only thing a man can really believe in!!!”
The economic-axis villain doctrine. Third pole of the East-Blue villain-grammar triangle:
- Kuro (Ch. 39): fraudulent honor — claims honor, breaks it empirically.
- Krieg (Ch. 60): anti-honor — explicitly disowns honor.
- Arlong (Ch. 69): money-as-only-truth — money is the only true value.
The doctrine is articulated to Nezumi (page 14, panel 2): “You and I speak the same language!” — Arlong identifies the currency through which he is willing to interact with the human race.
Forward-payoff: the Cocoyasi village-tax extortion regime (Ch. 70+) is the operational implementation of this doctrine. Arlong taxes Cocoyasi villagers at 100,000 berries per adult, 50,000 per child, to be paid monthly. The money-as-only-truth axiom is the economic-grammar of the entire Arlong-arc oppression mechanism.
