The seed

The Sun in the attack-name installs the solar/fire-encoding that runs through Ace’s character arc to Marineford. This is the second on-page Logia debut in the series (after Smoker’s smoke), and it lands in the same chapter as the first on-page Logia-vs-Logia stalemate (Ace Smoke-Vs-Fire Logia-Pair Combat Stalemate).

The payoff

(Forward-canon: the fruit is named Mera Mera no Mi across the Alabasta arc and explicitly named in subsequent chapters. The fire-vs-magma elemental weakness pays off at Marineford with Ace’s death to Akainu’s Magu Magu no Mi. The sun-coded fire register pays off in the Joy-Boy/Nika thematic stack and the Sabo-inheritance of the fruit at Dressrosa.)

Earliest known caller

Why this matters

The Mera Mera no Mi is one of the canonical Logia-tier fruits and Ace’s death-defining power. The Sun-Flare naming installs the solar/Joy-Boy-coded fire-register: Ace’s fire is sun-coded, not just flame-coded — pre-loads the Sabo-inheritance of the fruit (Dressrosa) and the Joy-Boy-sun-imagery thematic stack across the series. Cross-link Mera Mera no Mi, Ace.
