- Name etymology: ホヤ ‘hoya’ (火屋) = the glass chimney/shade of an oil lamp; reduplicated per Devil-Fruit naming it doubles as onomatopoeia for the puff/sound of smoke or steam (Wiki official meaning: “Lamp Chimney; Sound of smoke/steam”). The lamp reading is canonical — the fruit designates the user a “Lamp Human” (ランプ人間 Ranpu Ningen) and conjures a genie/jinn from the body, making the Aladdin’s-lamp / genie-from-a-lamp motif explicit.
