Etymology — the Numbers’ goroawase
- Rokki = 六鬼 → 六 roku “six” + 鬼 ki/oni “ogre/demon” → Number Six. (high confidence)
- Each Number’s name is a number-pun (goroawase) carrying its digit; six of the ten (Zanki, Jaki, Goki, Rokki, Nangi, Juki) also carry the 鬼 oni kanji, tying these artificial giant-ogres to Onigashima (鬼ヶ島, “Demon Island”). Cf. the same scheme already noted on Kunyun (九忍 = “nine”).
