Profile

Mikio Itoo (Mikio Itū) is a background joke character and arguably the very first Easter Egg featured in One Piece — a caricature of real-world Weekly Shonen Jump manga creator Mikio Ito, a fellow former assistant to Nobuhiro Watsuki whom Oda knew personally. Within the story he appears only as a recurring wanted poster: a gunman carrying a bounty of one million yen (¥1,000,000), the belly-equivalent of which is deliberately left unknown. His poster debuts in Chapter 1, hanging just behind Benn Beckman as he warns a young Luffy about the dangers of the sea, and reappears in the background across multiple later chapters.

Notes

  • Meta / real-world: caricature of Mikio Ito (いとうみきお), a Yokohama-born manga artist and fellow Watsuki assistant who published Normandy Secret Club and Mysterious Murasame-kun in Weekly Shonen Jump. The “proper” name is rendered in Roman letters glossed with katakana to distinguish the character from the real person (Blue databook, p. 30). # fandom
  • Recurring wanted-poster cameo also flagged in the Ch. 32 Question Corner. # fandom
  • Categorized on Fandom as: Easter Eggs, Humans, Joke Characters, Male Characters. # fandom
