Why this matters
The negative-space / prop-tell install: an established character is reintroduced doing something out of character for the version we already met (a new power, a subtly wrong aura) and a perceptive crew member voices the discrepancy on-page. When Oda gives a returning figure an unaccounted-for capability and has a character explicitly flag “he feels different,” the discrepancy is the thread — the figure is not the same as before. Here the beam + Robin’s unease are the planted seed that the Sabaody “Kuma” is not simply the Warlord from Thriller Bark.
