Why this matters
First named Grand-Line-specific marine creature in the series. The Neptunian naming-register is a pre-load: in mythology Neptune (Roman) = Poseidon (Greek), the sea-king. Forward-canonical to ~Ch. 612+, the Fish-Man Island arc introduces Neptune as the literal name of the Fish-Man King and Poseidon as the codename for Shirahoshi (an Ancient Weapon). The Ch. 102 Neptunian squid is the first name-drop of the Neptune-register in the series — an Oda name-etymology-class seed buried in a one-panel monster-of-the-week.
