The seed

The payoff

Forward-canon: Nanohana is the first port the Strawhats land at in Alabasta and the canonical Alabasta-arc coastal entry-point. Forward-canon: the town is destroyed (Crocodile-arc beat).

Why this matters

The Alabasta arc opens at Nanohana. Etymology: Nanohana (菜の花) = canola / rapeseed flower (the yellow flower whose bloom-fields cover Japan in spring) — the yellow-bloom-fields naming pre-loads the yellow desert register (Alabasta is a yellow-sand kingdom). Oda’s signature location-name-as-thematic-color naming.
