Why this matters
First on-page articulation of Nami’s life-dream. The Straw-Hat canonical each-recruit-has-a-dream alignment now includes Nami’s dream as a canonical entry (alongside Luffy: Pirate King; Zoro: World’s Greatest Swordsman; Usopp: Brave Warrior of the Sea; Sanji: All Blue). The dream is causally bound to her stealing (she stole the book to learn cartography) — the Ch. 8 ‘I rob pirates’ MO and the Ch. 77 ‘map of the whole world’ dream are the same backstory. Forward-payoff: every Nami-navigation arc across the series operates on this dream (Skypiea cloud-map, Whisky Peak weather-map, the New World ship-navigation arc). The chapter title ‘The First Step Toward a Dream’ is Bell-mère’s blessing on it — and Bell-mère’s death (forthcoming Ch. 78-79) is the chapter where the dream becomes Nami’s legacy promise to her dead foster mother.
