Plot-load-bearing paratext detail

The “There used to be two, but Luffy broke one” water-machine note installs Luffy-as-ship-property-damager as a recurring paratext-grammar. The protagonist has been damaging the Merry since pre-Ch. 97 (the note implies past-tense damage already done before the Merry-Go even reached Loguetown).

Forward-pattern

Every later Luffy-breaks-the-ship register recurs across the Merry’s lifespan; the Enies Lobby Merry-destruction context is accumulating-Luffy-damage-since-Ch.-97. The Sunny-era Franky-engineering-around-Luffy-damage register pre-loads here.

Series-running paratext

This is the third Ship Tour installment after Ch. 92 (#1: Lounge) and Ch. 95 (#4: Women’s Quarters, out-of-order numbering by Oda) and Ch. 96 (#2: Gun Deck).
