Predicted: the escape-clause is never invoked across the rest of the series (Luffy’s captain-side moral-floor never breaks). The absence of invocation across 1000+ chapters becomes the long-burn structural confirmation of Luffy’s character. The chekhov-non-firing is the payoff — the gun on the mantel is never fired because the condition is never met.

Why this matters

• Captain-doctrine as conditional mutual pact — the Straw Hat captain-doctrine is captain-by-consent-with-character-conditions, not captain-by-rank or captain-by-fear. The chapter explicitly opens the door to revocation; the door is never used.
• Structural inverse of the Black Cat captain-doctrine — Oda is composing the Straw Hat captain-doctrine immediately after the Black Cat captain-doctrine-collapse (Ch 38-39 — the captain-as-pawns-doctrine villain). The two arcs’ captain-doctrines are direct compositional argument.
