Zoan-type · tanuki (raccoon-dog) canine model · eaten by Bunbuku, a living tea-kettle — an object-Zoan (Inanimate Zoan) fruit

Mechanics

The Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Tanuki is a Zoan-type Devil Fruit that (per the standard Zoan grammar) grants a tanuki hybrid and full-tanuki transformation. The tanuki (raccoon dog) is a canid, so the fruit sits in the Inu Inu (“Dog-Dog”) family alongside the Jackal (Chaka), Wolf (Jabra), and Dachshund (Lassoo) models — each of which, per Oda’s SBS Vol 48 doctrine, is a different fruit.

Its user is not a person but Bunbuku, an inanimate tea-kettle / teapot that was given life by “eating” the fruit — an object-Zoan (categorised as an Inanimate Zoan User), the same phenomenon as Lassoo, Funkfreed, and the Punk Hazard toys.

Bunbuku’s manifestation

Significance

  • A Wano-arc object-Zoan joining the series’ running “inanimate objects can eat Devil Fruits” motif (pre-loaded by Lassoo and Funkfreed).
  • Third Inu Inu model with a real-world folklore hook: the Bunbuku Chagama tale of a tanuki-turned-tea-kettle, cleverly inverted so an actual kettle becomes a tanuki.
